Nathaniel Ayers

Mini Bio: A former student of the Julliard School in New York where he played the double bass, Nathaniel had a chance meeting with Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist, while living on the streets of Los Angeles. They developed a unique friendship while Steve wrote a number of columns on Nathaniel’s current state. This led to a book, The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music and the film The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. In 2008, Nathaniel’s sister Jennifer Ayers-Moore founded The Nathaniel Anthony Ayers Foundation.

Homelessness: In 2000, Nathaniel moved to Los Angeles hoping to find his father after his mother passed away. Instead, with the help of his ever progressing illness of Schizophrenia, Nathaniel became homeless living on the streets of Skid Row.
