5 Inspiring facts about Jim Carrey

portrait of Jim CarreyEverybody loves Jim Carrey for his enigmatic way of dealing with people and his talent as a comedian and actor.

Jim Carrey is probably best known for his starring roles in The Mask, Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber but did you know that there is much more to this talented actor than meets the eye?

Let’s take a look at some lesser-known facts about Hollywood’s favorite actor!

1. He didn’t finish high school

Yes, that’s right!

Jim Carrey dropped out of school at the age of 16 – not because he was too stupid to complete high school, but because he was passionate about launching his entertainment career and he wanted to do it as soon as possible.

Sadly, things didn’t go as planned at first and he learned a hard life lesson that he would really have to work hard to fulfill his dreams.

2. He suffers from depression

They say that the people who make you laugh the most are the saddest people.

Jim Carrey is no exception to this rule and he has suffered from crippling depression for many decades.

He is also no stranger to taking the antidepressant drug, Prozac, which has helped him to quell the tide of depression.

Jim Carrey now relies on hobbies and fun personal pursuits to keep his depression at bay.

3. Jim Carrey asked Carol Burnett for a job when he was 10

Carrey has wanted to be in the entertainment industry since he was very young and he was very determined that he would make it.

It is, therefore, no surprise that he decided to mail his resume to Carol Burnett at the age of 10 in the hopes of getting a look in.

Unfortunately, this did not work but Jim persisted until he got it right several years later.

4. He has dual nationality

Canadian-born Jim Carrey is both a U.S. and a Canadian citizen.

He acquired his American citizenship back in 2004 but still remains a loyal Canadian.

The only problem he has with now being an American is the fact that he hates US politics.

5. He experienced homelessness

When Jim Carrey was younger, he was homeless living in a yellow Volkswagon van in Canada with his brother, sister and both his mother and father.
